For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11
God’s Word will not return void and will accomplish what He pleases. That’s quite a statement. We certainly can’t say the same with our words. We’ve unintentionally offended with our words. We’ve sent our words out for an intended purpose, and they accomplished the opposite of what we desired. We’ve been precise in our language, just to have a friend completely misinterpret what was said. We’ve meant to compliment our spouse, but the communication was received as an insult.
Communicating can be such a delicate thing. We have so much practice at it given the volume of words that we speak daily, and yet we can still fail to deliver the expected message.
God’s Word is not like that, however. It always prospers in the thing for which He sends it. It never misses its mark. It always yields fruit. So, we should immerse ourselves in it … read it, study it, memorize it, speak it to others, put it on our fridge or computer monitor, remind our children how important it is, cherish it. His promise is that it always yields something worthwhile.
