…if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4: 21-24
This kind of comparison is excellent because it spurs you onto greater holiness. It glorifies God and the work that He is doing in you! It encourages others to see Christ in you as they see a difference in you.
Instead of complaining and playing the “woe is me” game during the simple act of folding towels this morning, I chose to pray and thank God for the many things He has given me and done in my life. I was amazed at how much joy began to overflow from me! What overflows from complaining? Bitterness, anger, frustration…and the list goes on. Thankfulness and joy safeguard our heart from these other responses that can bubble over from our self-centered hearts.
We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. May we recognize these good works–yes, even folding towels as I manage my home and serve my family–and be compelled by the love of Christ to faithfully complete them.
Love, Wendy
Isn’t it a gift, too, to have your creative juices flowing while doing a menial task like folding towels? Technology like blogging allows those of us who like to write a creative outlet that can inspire others with God’s Word. Keep going, Wendy!
Just last night at our women’s Bible study we were discussing how encouraging it is that when we look back to our old self it is like looking at a completely different person. And though we must still consider the sin in our life now, we can see how far the Spirit has grown us and changed us. And how He is so willing and ready to continue that change, but sometimes we forget to pray for it. And a little side note about the laundry….folding is my least favorite activity. Something I like to do is pray for the person who the clothes belong to, whether it is my children or husband. And also think of the happy memories made in those clothes:)
