Dear Hattie,
I don’t usually make resolutions for the new year, but as we turn the page on 2020, I’m looking for a way to mark what I’ve endured, to testify to the work God has done in me, and to look forward to what He will do in 2021. Any suggestions?
Unresolved
Dear Unresolved,
It has been quite a year, hasn’t it? So often we see in Scripture where milestones were marked by ways to remember them and tell others about them.
Memorize Scripture. Pick a passage of Scripture that is meaningful to this year and work to memorize it. It will serve as that milestone you’re looking for and will be a reminder of God’s work in your life.
Pass Your Lessons Along. Tell a friend, your child, your spouse, or a stranger about how good God has been. It’s often easy to see all the negative of this past year. It will do everyone some good to spread some gratitude to God and help others see the blessings in the midst of trials.
Make a Resolution. Well, maybe a resolution isn’t your thing, but what has the Holy Spirit been doing in your heart lately. Maybe it’s a sin that needs to be addressed once and for all, and you can pray for victory this year. Maybe it’s a way you can love others more fervently. Maybe it’s a way to serve and support others in your church community. Work toward that goal, pray toward that goal, and see God work this year in it.
Love, Hattie
