Fast forward a year from now. How much Scripture have you memorized in 2019? Did you meet your goal? Did you even set a goal?
Now jump in my time machine with me and go back to February 5, 2019. That’s today! I really just wanted an excuse to talk about a time machine. The good news is that 2019 is only 1/12 over. There’s plenty of time to commit some Scripture to memory.
“God’s Word must be so strongly fixed in our minds that it becomes the dominant influence in our thoughts, our attitudes, and our actions. One of the most effective ways of influencing our minds is through memorizing Scripture. David said, ‘I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).’” (Jerry Bridges)
Tips for Scripture Memory:
- Have a plan. Whatever you decide to do, have a plan. Or join the re:flect-I community in memorizing, and we’ll supply your plan every month. The first Tuesday will have a printable with all the verses for the month – one per week – and we’ll remind you of the verse of the week in each subsequent post. Easy peasy.
- Put the verses in an obvious place. Put it on the refrigerator, the bathroom mirror, your car steering wheel, your coffee pot, your Bible, your Poptart package. Just put it somewhere that you’ll see it and you can work on it daily … a little at a time.
- Pro tip: Gamify your memory. Instead of scrolling Pinterest, Instagram, or Facebook, use a verse memorization app like Verses to capitalize on the moments you have throughout the day. You might be surprised how quickly verses stick with you!
Here’s to memorizing more Scripture in 2019!
