I recently got an electric toothbrush. I’ve never really considered getting one. I often thought they were overrated. I mean, I’ve been brushing my teeth since I was a kid. I have lots of practice. But I was offered one for free, so it became worth a try.
This toothbrush has revolutionized my life. That might be a bit dramatic, but it has really changed my brushing experience. It’s weird how it has also changed my dog’s life. No, we don’t share the toothbrush. But my morning routine includes letting him outside while I’m brushing my teeth. It seems more efficient to combine the tasks. The toothbrush vibrates so it makes a little noise.
After just a couple of days, I noticed that no matter where my dog was in the house, he got up and went to the door to be let out whenever he heard my toothbrush. He quickly adapted to our new routine. First of all, this proves that you actually can teach an old dog new tricks and also that Pavlov was right, they can be conditioned to certain behavior.
Our printable this month is about Jesus as the Good Shepherd.
John 10:11, 14, and 27 says: I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. Do we know His voice? Can we distinguish His voice from the voices of social media? The news? Our coworkers? At the first sense of His voice, do we take action right away to follow Him? Or do we hesitate? Or try to justify away His voice?
He knows His sheep. He knows we are flesh, and He knows us like no one else does. That’s a comfort and a challenge.
Hear His voice, and follow Him.
