Creating something does not seem like a foreign or unreachable concept for us as women. How often do we see a friend create a gorgeous cake or a beautifully knitted scarf? Scouring the Pinterest boards just proves how easy it is for us to create. Even if you aren’t the crafty sort, if you are a mom, well, you know what it is to help create a little life inside you. But even as I write this, I realize that we aren’t ultimately the ones who have created that life, are we? Even the scarves or delicious meals we make begin elsewhere–in a garden or from an animal, and we did not create the cow or chicken or strawberry seed. As I look upon the supremacy of a God who sacrificed Himself for His children’s behalf, I must admit that there is nothing in me that is above Him.
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.
Colossians 1: 16-17
Notice all the prepositions in those verses (sorry, I can be a grammar geek). By Him, through Him, for Him, before all things, in Him…these prepositions point to one person: Jesus. Not me. I’m sure God has great joy in how I love His world and observe its beauty, but God is Creator for His own glory. This perspective comes in handy whenever I begin to take on an entitlement mentality. It’s not about my comfort, my entertainment, my happiness. This life is about exalting God and giving Him the glory. When that is my goal, then ultimately no matter what happens, it’s all good. A financial struggle becomes an opportunity to see God’s provision in every big and small need. Pain or illness grows us closer to the Healer. The unknown–maybe a rebelling child, a troubled marriage, a job prospect– forces our faith to increase.
As I seek God first, everything else falls into its proper place because He is in the proper place. My challenge to you, and right back to me, is that we would recognize Christ’s preeminence, His supremacy, over all. And, that begins at the beginning…as the Creator of all.
