…I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
1 Corinthians 10: 1-4
My parents built my childhood home when I was two years old. And, while it has changed quite a bit over the years, they still live there to this day. I recognize now how it was a benefit to grow up in the same house, but at the time I envisioned moving and starting all over with everything and everyone new. It seemed like it would be exciting to be the “new girl”. I always loved befriending the new girls at school and learning about where they came from.
Although I moved away for college and marriage, I still lived within 45 minutes of my childhood home. Stability would have been a very proper adjective for my life…
until my 33rd year of that formerly unwavering life.
My husband’s job demanded a transfer eight hours away. The prospect of moving still seemed fun to me, but I had grown very comfortable in my stable life. It was difficult to leave all that was familiar, but we quickly grew to love the people in our new home, Paducah, Kentucky. And, when it was time to move two years later, and again a year later, and again two years after that, I was a mess.
Some of you may have experienced a stable and comfortable life without any big disruptions at all. But, in this fallen world, we can be almost certain that we will endure a whirlwind of some kind. And when we do…
Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from Him.
Truly He is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge.Psalm 62: 5-8
Why won’t we be shaken in the midst of the tempest? Because, as children of God, our foundation is sure and set upon the Rock. This Rock has always been. He did not just appear in modern times, but He has always existed.
When our foundation is built upon changing tides, opinions, preferences and man’s wisdom, I can guarantee that you will eventually be shaken to the core.
But, when our hope is set upon Jesus our Rock, even the most earth-shattering news can be endured. Think of what that might be for you…and know that nothing is too big to shatter the secure foundation of Jesus Christ.
Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
Psalm 62: 2

Thanks Wendy. That is just the encouragement I needed to hear in the midst of a move.
