Have you ever heard the saying “Sing it and you’ll never forget it?’ I can think of so many facts or Bible verses I know because I learned them to a song. Whenever I am going through any kind of trial, I often end up singing some hymn or song.
In my dad’s last few days on earth, my siblings and my mom and I would trade off days to spend with him. It was always so hard to leave him but I needed to head home to my family. On my half- hour drive home, I would often sing one of my favorite hymns: Great Is Thy Faithfulness. It is so comforting to know that Jesus is faithful and that His Words are true. This is a sure thing in our unstable world and in unstable circumstances. We can trust His Word and what it promises. The last verse of this song says:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside.
I am thankful that when I am tired, overwhelmed and exhausted with the burdens and cares of life, I can go to trust in the steadfast faithfulness of Jesus. I can trust in “Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide.”
I routinely post verses over my kitchen sink or in my journal that help me focus on what I need to work on or areas of encouragement. Here are a couple verses that I recently have posted that focus on this concept:
Psalm 108:4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Psalm 92:1-3 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp.
1 Corinthians 1:9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
This keeps my heart focused on Jesus and His faithfulness to me. What are your worries? What promises of God are you trusting in today?
