What exactly is the whole reason behind Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection?  Many of us celebrate Easter every year, but do we understand why Jesus had to do what He had to do?  Why this?  What is this all about?
The Garden of Eden was a place of beauty and joy.  Adam and Eve, God’s first created humans, delighted in this haven.  Their relationship with God was faultless.  This place of perfection is exactly what you and I crave…whether we realize it or not.  We crave it because we were made for it, but no longer have it on our own.  When Adam and Eve thought they knew better than God and believed Satan’s lies to them, they fell into sin and marred the entire human race.  The sin they committed against our Holy God needed to be dealt with.  There would be treacherous work, painful childbirth and eventual death for our earthly bodies.  As we look around our world today, we see the effects of Adam and Eve’s fall into sin from simple to horrifying decay.

Even as God cursed mankind for Adam and Eve’s sin, He provided the ultimate blessing as well.  This blessing came in the form of a curse on Satan:

Because you have done this,
You are cursed more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you shall go,
And you shall eat dust
All the days of your life.
And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.

Genesis 3: 15

While Satan thought he could destroy Adam and Eve, and while he prowls around even now looking to devour the children of God, there has been, and will be, ultimate victory over this Evil One.

…Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2: 5-11

The very work that Jesus came to do–living a perfect life and dying a sacrificial death–was completed.  And the seed of the serpent has been crushed by the Son of God who was born of the willing servant, Mary.

Praise the Lord–it is finished and we live in His victory!

Love, Wendy
