re logoThe re:garding HIM women’s conference is just around the bend. What is re:garding HIM, you ask? This one-day conference is hosted by the women of Christ the Word church in Sylvania, OH. It is designed for women of Northwest Ohio and beyond! to gather and benefit from sound Biblical teaching, connections with other local women, and a little pampering and rest. Your budget may be tight. Your lives are busy. That is why re:garding HIM is very affordable, and leaves just time enough in retreat to feel restored yet not frazzled. This year’s theme is Daughters of the King. Each of the talks will be given by local, ordinary women who have seen God be a Father in their own lives. They will be sharing from their own lives and the Bible how growing as a daughter of the King has changed them for His glory. You can get all the information and list of talks at the re:garding Him website. But here is the skinny…it will be held October 3, 2015 from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm. The cost is $20 and includes a yummy lunch. There will be two Main Sessions and a choice of two Breakout Sessions (7 to choose from). You can register online today! We hope you will come! This week and for the month of September, re:flect-I will be posting Speaker Spotlights each Friday so you can get a flavor for what to expect.

The Gatekeeper: Letting Down the Drawbridge sarah1

We are called by Christ to be hospitable, and yet we often find excuses to not reach out to others. Hospitality can take many forms and is possible at any stage of life.

Sarah French will be giving a talk on hospitality and living with an open heart. You can read more about her on the re:garding HIM bio page as well as by her replies below:

Describe your topic in ten words or less?

[SF] Using your home to bestow Christ’s love on others.

What have you found challenging about preparing for this talk?

[SF] Finding time to have a complete thought.

What is a scripture or quote that has helped your preparation?

[SF] “They might be angels. Let them ride.” -Nancy Wilson

What is a book you’ve recently read that you would recommend to others?

[SF] “The Shaping of a Christian Family: How My Parents Nurtured My Faith” by Elisabeth Elliot

Favorite Hymn or worship song?

[SF] I’ve always been encouraged by “A Mighty fortress is Our God”. This summer I’ve also enjoyed the music of “Ghost Ship”.

Introvert or extrovert? How do you know?

[SF] Not sure. Split down the middle when I take those quizzes. This summer I’ve found it helpful to be around people so maybe I’m becoming more of an extrovert.

Finish this sentence: If I had two hours of free time I would…

[SF] If it is raining I would make a photo book. If it is sunny I would take a hike.

Favorite smell? Worst smell?

[SF] The soap at The Toledo Hospital reminds me of the birth of my kids. I really detest the smell of rotting milk.

What woman do you most admire in scripture and why?

[SF] Ruth. She was very loyal, brave and trusted God.

What was your most memorable birthday?

[SF] My 37th. I was on vacation with my immediate and extended family in Idaho. We spent the day swimming and boating. In the evening we grilled out and then ate delicious Costco cake. When the sun went down my mom broke out the glow sticks and we jumped in the water together. It was a simple celebration but nice to be with family and have a little fuss made. I also remember my 8th birthday – my mom made Peek-a-boo Stew (a childhood favorite of mine) and my grandparents were in town.

What would you say is one of your weaknesses and two of your strengths?

[SF] I can be grudgey if I’m not quick to repent and turn away from anger. I am resourceful and can laugh at myself.
