Keynote Session: “Grace Revealed”

What three words that start with the first letter of your first name describe you?

Comfortable, consistent and colorful.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a teacher and for about one minute I considered being a lawyer.

Where in the Bible are you reading this summer?

I’ve been reading in Paul’s letters recently.  I like the way they challenge me to tackle areas of sin in my life that I tend to overlook.

What has God already showed you about your topic?

GRACE is a lofty topic.  As I study it, I grapple with the issue of grace/works.  Even though I know my salvation is based entirely on God’s graciousness toward me, I still act like works are somehow involved.  I need to let that go…..this is something I will be talking about at the conference.

What has God already showed you about your topic?

I am reading a book called “The Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod.  My boss gave it to me because it helped him start his day with more positive energy, and I noticed a difference in him.  I have already changed a few morning routines, like reading scripture first thing.  The real test will be whether I actually get up earlier to exercise. Hahahahaha!

What breakout sessions would you like attend?

All of the breakouts look really good, and all of the speakers interest me.  Making a choice will be tough!

What blogs and websites do you often click?

I very rarely follow blogs other than the BaylyBlog and re:flect-i.  Spending a few minutes on Pinterest is always fun, too.

 Describe your perfect day.

My perfect day would definitely be at the beach with the people I love the most and involve floating on rafts and riding jet skis.  After the sun sets, we would grill shrimp for dinner and wind up the day making s’mores around a fire.  We would laugh and tell stories until the wee hours, and fall asleep listening to the sound of the waves.

Share a piece of marriage/friendship/child-rearing wisdom.

Relationship wisdom- be the kind of friend upon whom others should have no fear to call.

How have you seen God’s hand in a good situation and a difficult one?

God’s hand has been with me throughout my professional life, being very clear about the positions I should accept and the students entrusted to me.  The greatest challenge in my life was caring for my mom for over 10 years in her struggle with dementia.  In the darkest days, God was with us and restored my soul when I cried out to him.

What was the first concert you attended?

Okay, this is embarrassing. My first concert was Bobby Sherman in 1969. I was 10 years old and it was awesome!

How do you stay in touch with friends?

Facebook has really helped me reconnect with old friends. I also like having people over which is a great way to stay connected!

How do you incorporate prayer time into your life?

Right now I am focusing on having a thankful spirit.  I pray a prayer listing at least 10 things for which I am grateful every morning as soon as I open my eyes and before my feet touch the floor.  It makes me feel cheery and it reminds me how God is gracious with me.

What music gets you pumped?

I can rock it out with the Everlasting Word Band for sure; but truth be told, “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen gets me every time.
