Wendy and I both have sons graduating from High School this spring. She has been through this once before. I have not. (Can I just tell you how hard it is to restrain myself from using too many exclamation points and emojis right now?)

First let me interject that we have a new Blog series in the works for this summer. We are excited about it and are praying it will serve our readers well. Stay tuned!

Back to the changes and gradients of life: I will readily admit I did a lot of crying over the past year in preparing for this finish-line event of my firstborn graduating high school. I think I am ready now. Not that it matters–because it is here, ready or not.

I will choose to be ready and am aiming to laugh at days to come all because my hope is in God. And I am excited for him!

Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come. Proverbs 31:25

I wanted to leave you with a stirring song from a father to his son today. It is Andrew Peterson’s “You’ll Find Your Way”. I pray it is an encouragement.

I typically try to find straight lyric videos rather than storied ones for my posts so that they are not a distraction from the message. But this one seems to highlight the message well. It is a tear-jerker. Just fair warning 🙂

And this part of the song gets me every time:

Go back, go back to the ancient paths
Lash your heart to the ancient mast
And hold on, boy, whatever you do
To the hope that’s taken a hold of you

Holding onto our hope in Christ, the ancient mast, the anchor for our soul is how we weather all of life’s storms–whether we are 18 or almost 42. (full lyrics written below)

Thanks for letting me share a bit of my heart with you today. Have a blessed weekend!

In Christ’s love, Erika

You’ll Find Your Way

When I look at you, boy
I can see the road that lies ahead
I can see the love and the sorrow

Bright fields of joy
Dark nights awake in a stormy bed
I wanna go with you, but I can’t follow

So keep to the old roads
Keep to the old roads
And you’ll find your way

Your first kiss, your first crush
The first time you know you’re not enough
The first time there’s no one there to hold you

The first time you pack it all up
And drive alone across America
Please remember the words that I told you

Keep to the old roads
Keep to the old roads
And you’ll find your way

If love is what you’re looking for
The old roads lead to an open door
And you’ll find your way
Back home

And I know you’ll be scared when you take up that cross
And I know it’ll hurt, ’cause I know what it costs
And I love you so much and it’s so hard to watch
But you’re gonna grow up and you’re gonna get lost
Just go back, go back

Go back, go back to the ancient paths
Lash your heart to the ancient mast
And hold on, boy, whatever you do
To the hope that’s taken a hold of you
And you’ll find your way
If love is what you’re looking for
The old roads lead to an open door
And you’ll find your way
Back home
Back home
Back home
