If you have been memorizing Scripture with us, we recently memorized Micah 7:18-19.

Who is a God like You,
Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.

He will again have compassion on us,
And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our sins
Into the depths of the sea.

I personally love this passage.  When I read it, I see a progression.  It starts by addressing God as God. Wrapped up in that title is that He’s God–all powerful, spoke creation into existence, sovereign of the universe–God.

The passage then moves to address Him as “He.”  This seems to imply a little more familiarity. It puts God on a closer level.  He’s not just the sovereign of the universe…He’s here with us. He doesn’t retain His anger forever because He delights in mercy.  He has compassion on us!

And then the passage moves to an even closer realm–You.  Now You are directly at our sides. You are reassuring us that our sins will be cast into the depths of the sea.

This is why we memorize Scripture…to bring the Almighty of the Universe into the perspective that He is personal.  We memorize to hide God’s word in our hearts. We tuck those verses into our pockets–those love notes and promises of God–to be pulled out and remind us in the times that we don’t FEEL His love, that He loves us, and He casts our sins into the depths of the sea.

Who is a God like You?  There’s no one else like You!

Love, April
